Quinn and I were on a plane bound for Maui when my name was called over the intercom by a flight attendant. My first thought was that Quinn had forgotten to pay for my seat. I was told that I had won a “seat draw” and to claim my prize I would partake in a scavenger hunt throughout the plane. As they pulled back the curtains, much to my surprise, there was Quinn, in the middle of the aisle, down on one knee. The proposal was captured on disposable cameras by the cabin crew and we were cheered on by the rest of the passengers. The best part of Quinn’s brilliant plan was the next 10 days spent soaking up our engagement, just the two of us. Our wedding took place during the snowiest season in Montana at the Green Valley Ranch. Montana has become a very special place for us over the past six years, thanks to Quinn’s family and it is always our first choice when we want to plan a getaway. Initially we were planning a much larger summer wedding at our farm in Alberta, but after pruning what seemed like thousands of trees, amongst other preparations, we realized the weight of the process was greater than the joy it was bringing us. We shifted our ideas to align with a much simpler, yet meaningful celebration that allowed us to relax and enjoy each other’s company even more. From the bridesmaids arranging the flower bouquets, my sister and mother creating our wedding cake, to Quinn’s grandparents presenting our rings during the ceremony, friends and family were very much a part of our day and this made it unbelievably special for us. One of the most memorable moments was having our family and friends gather around us with sparklers in hand as Quinn and I slow-danced to our favourite song outside on that chilly Montana night. We are learning to love and appreciate each other in the candid moments, not just on the good days but also in the midst of our busy daily lives and to-do lists. We have found a home in each other that we want to nurture and grow through dedication, honesty and lots of laughs.
