Real Wedding: Peter + Seo – Photography by Forged in the North

I’m a native New Yorker from Queens who loves everything about New York: the Mets, the Knicks, the Giants, and a good New York slice. Seo was raised in Northern California and couldn’t care less about any New York sports teams — I haven’t been able to convince her to go to a single game during the seven years we have been together! However, our differences make our relationship strong. I am very regimented and organised and Seo prefers to go with the flow. She encourages me to be more relaxed and let go of things that don’t matter. We met on the 4th of July in Las Vegas, where both of us were coincidentally on annual vacations with friends. We were staying at the same hotel and met by the pool. We hit it off and stayed in touch over the next few months. Fate brought us together when Seo was accepted to a school in NYC a year later. I guess what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas! We chose not to use a wedding planner so Google Docs and Etsy were our best friend. Seo had a wedding spreadsheet that covered every aspect of the wedding and that helped her stay organized and sane. We originally wanted an outdoor wedding but all of the venues were too far from NYC. When we found the Metropolitan Building we fell in love with the space. The building lent itself to a “moody” style; a colour palette of Bordeaux and aubergine with golden hues, and dark, lush foliage which contrasted perfectly with the soft tones of the antique building. The only thing that didn’t go according to plan was the heat! It was the hottest day of the year in NYC, the temperature was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and humid, and because we had always visited the venue in cooler weather we never considered air conditioning. As the day went on, it felt more like a sauna, but that didn’t stop everyone drinking, dancing and celebrating with us. During those stressful times we tried to remember the bigger picture; no matter how the wedding day turns out, by the end of it you will be married to someone you can’t imagine life without, and that’s pretty special. Marriage is like a road trip: there might be stops along the way but ultimately it’s just the two of you alone in the car, going on this journey together.
