Murray Crane, director of premium New Zealand menswear brand Crane Brothers, visits Italy at least once a year to meet with suppliers. We asked him about his love of Italian sartorial craftsmanship and his latest trip.
How long have you been in Fashion and what was the inspiration to start Victor Bridesmaid? My interest in fashion started from a young age (as soon as I could sew!) and after completing a Fashion Diploma in Wellington, I began my fashion career in 1999 with Keith Matheson. I was inspired to start ViCTOR when my friends started getting engaged and came to me for help with their dresses after struggling to find dresses in the retail shops.
Tell us about your work and your style:
Probably the best way to describe my style is in my client’s words – natural. There is a recurrent theme when people contact me to photograph them and that is that they love how natural my photos appear and how I capture genuine moments. Every wedding is unique and that’s what I get most excited about – capturing a day as it unfolds, all the real moments. I want my couples to feel comfortable being themselves while I take their photos – I encourage laughter and affection and I think that feeling at ease in front of me goes a long way to achieving the natural shots that I get.Read More
How do you take a once-kitsch and tasteless treat and turn it into a visually dynamic and flavoursome sensation for weddings, launches and lavish dinner parties? We asked Jessica Mentis, aka The Jellyologist, who has been making events wobble with her weird and wonderful edible jelly art since 2015.
How did you originally get into music?
N: There was a lot of music in my house and by the time I was 12, I was playing gigs with my Dad and brother, Joel. I moved to New York in 1991 to study music, then to London in 1995. I’m grateful to have had a life in the music industry and to still be doing it.
J: Both my parents listened to good music when I was growing up, and I inherited their vinyl! I met Nathan when I was 20 and since then my life has been a mix of great sounds, style and art.Read More
