Deadly Ponies – Voyage 2018

Categories: Fashion-Deadly Ponies - Voyage 2018

This June, Deadly Ponies will release their first unisex travel collection which celebrates the explorer in all of us. Strong and utilitarian, the aptly named Voyage collection, offers a range of products suited to both men and women designed for work and travel.

With the modern traveller eschewing the need for traditional luggage, and with the rise of the digital nomad finding a workplace almost anywhere, Voyage is your ultimate travel companion, wherever life may take you. Inspired by structural military design accents, Creative Director Liam Bowden has introduced new designs that cater to a changing world. New silhouettes include Monkey – a structured, versatile shape which can be a backpack, belted on the waist or looped to create a double Monkey. The Astrix Backpack is functional and versatile, with a convertible strap that switches from a backpack to a messenger with ease – perfect for the traveller who is at home anywhere. The collection is available in Black and Saddle bovine leather and also features highlights of Croc embossed leather. The collection also includes products that have been fashioned from a wooden ornament, intricately carved and shaped as a crocodile. Elements of the crocodile are woven into the collection, from creating embossed leather crocodile accessories – Alligator Charm and Croc Chain Strap – to the luxurious Saddle brown croc-embossed bovine, set to become a signature Deadly Ponies texture.

A Creative Voyage – Following on from the success of the 2017 ‘creators’ event, Deadly Ponies have again this year collaborated with three local New Zealand creatives to inspire the 2018 Voyage campaign. Each collaboration was a journey in its own right, with Bowden immersing himself in the worlds of each creator, letting them build icons that celebrates their vision. Long-time friend and artist Richard Maloy used his offbeat talents to create two bespoke costumes that depict alien figures, one made entirely of tinfoil and the other from cardboard. Maloy’s chosen materials create striking images for the Voyage campaign.

Sculptor Grant Bailey chipped away at his own otherworldly creation, chiselling a mask from native timber. The face is both sinister and stoic, with a wooden staff accompanying it, resulting in a costume that displays undeniably elite craftsmanship – exquisite in all its detail.

Finally, the co-creators of Auckland’s newest and most authentic modern bakery, Daily Bread, worked with Bowden to create a Knight’s armour, completely out of bread. This considered irreverence to their craft meant the Daily Bread bakers could throw caution to the wind and make something from left-field, dovetailing with Bowden’s cheeky spirit which permeates so many of his designs.

The official launch of Deadly Ponies Voyage 2018 will hit stores on June 16 celebrated with an in store launch event at our Flagship Ponsonby store. The makers and their creations will be honoured at an invite-only event in early July at the brand’s flagship store in Ponsonby, Auckland. Expressions of interest in attending the event can be sent to hello@deadlyponies.com. Please note that numbers for the event are strictly limited.
