James & Olivia – by Maria Shirieva

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Liv is a flight attendant, fulfilling her love for travel, and James is a property investment coach and mentor, fulfilling his love for finding an amazing deal! We love Cat’s, we have two bengal’s, travelling, surfing and cycling and Bali of course! What is unique about our relationship? We decided to never compare ourselves to others, but instead set goals that we wanted to achieve together as a couple for reasons that were meaningful to us!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

The wedding was in Bali so we just went with a tropical luxe/ boho vibe. The setting was in the garden an hour before sunset followed by cocktails, dinner and dancing in the garden shala. Liv is a perfectionist planner, but for the wedding she wanted to focus on the love and commitment of the day rather than the event details themselves. However, thanks to the team at Komune Bali the details we impeccable.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Liv’s dress is from Grace Loves lace, I went by myself to their Los Angeles Show room on a work trip. I fell in love with the dress and knew I had finally found the one. This was after multiple trips to places in Auckland and Melbourne with many different family and friends. I actually loved going on my own to pick the dress and found it less stressful then having a group with me. James’ suit was from Barkers NZ and paired with a Zambesi shirt. James loves fashion, he used to have his own label in NZ, so he is always looking for nice designer pieces from boutique or underground labels.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

We loved doing the photo’s after the ceremony with just the two of us, it was a really romantic experience. The guests (and us) loved our custom denim jackets that James made, when we wore them into the reception. We both felt overwhelming feelings of love and gratitude to have all our favourite people by our side in Bali for such a special day.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Never compare your relationship to those of your friends, peers or icons. Always support each other. Be a united team always!
