Kate and Andrew – Photography by Georgia Verrells

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Andrew works for a developer building aged care homes. He is a keen triathlete, loves trying anything new, camping and getting outdoors.

Kate works as a design manager for a construction company. She loves spending time with family and friends, and having a relaxing day of pampering. We bonded over a love of travelling and seeing the world, snowboarding, eating and taking our dog Smudge for a walk.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We didn’t have a theme in mind when we started organising. We knew we didn’t want something traditional and were drawn to a warehouse/more modern setting. We were really lucky to stumble across 40rd and it was the perfect venue for us. Our flowers were absolutely beautiful, we wanted these to stand out and add a pop of colour and fun to the setting. We have some talented friends who worked on our signage and made our gorgeous cake.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Kate chose this dress because she loved the simple detail, gorgeous lace and it was so light and comfortable. Great for a summer wedding! Andrew got his suit custom made by Institchu and having a tailored suit makes such a difference.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

We had first look photos before the ceremony in some gardens in Brighton – this was a big highlight of the day. It took the nerves off for the ceremony and we got to enjoy some private time before seeing everyone. This also meant we could enjoy the cocktail hour, which was also one of the best parts. It was a sunny afternoon, outside in a little courtyard, and we got to get around to chat with most people before dinner. We also loved our first dance! We went to do a single lesson, just so we wouldn’t be stepping on each other’s feet, and had so much fun that we ended up doing a choreographed dance. We couldn’t stop laughing together while we were learning and it is such a fun memory.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Enjoy each other, be honest and talk about your futures. Most of all have fun, laugh together and focus on what you love about each other.
