Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Dan and I met in the small town of Alexandra and after 7 years of dating he proposed on Stewart Island, on a family weekend away with his family.

He proposed on a secluded beach where an old ship wreak was and he had buried a message in a bottle in the sand and made me find it and open it, to my surprise it said “will you marry me” of course I said yes! It was then so lovely to go back and celebrate with family. We wanted a short engagement so set a date for a year out. Our dream was to always get married around Central Otago with the landscape and schist rock. Fruitland’s was the perfect place when a friend of my mums agreed for us to have the ceremony in her garden we were stoked. It was beautiful.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We wanted a small wedding followed by a hell of a party afterwards with great food and wine. My favourite setting was the ceremony- everything down to the fine decorations was just perfect, the view and gorgeous trees and gardens made it so pretty.

We wanted to create our own style, so we handpicked the decorations, designed the wedding stationary and put together our own flower centrepieces .

Tell us about your main outfits:

It didn’t take me long to find my perfect dress- Novia brides in Wanaka was the first place I looked, I tried on about 6 dresses and fell in love with the one Mum and I chose. I wanted Dan to wear something quite Causal and Vintage- Barkers were so helpful and styled him exactly how we wanted.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

The most special moment for the day was seeing each other for the first time before the ceremony. When Dan saw me in my dress for the first time, his face was beaming with excitement and hugged me so tight

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Plan a wedding to suit your budget and style – the day goes so fast so enjoy and take in every moment.
