Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
We are old souls adventuring in the modern age. Mike is a professional photographer, amateur artist, and lover of whiskey while Christina is passionate about creating anything she can with her hands including clothing and woodwork. We share a mutual love for humor and all things fantasy/sci-fi. We love history and travel as well as anything related to psychology.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
As creatives, we knew how important the venue would be to setting the tone for the day and we chose The Powel Crosley Estate for its rich ambience and old world feel. The 1920’s is our favorite era and this estate really became the perfect fit for our vision. Much of what we used for decor in the venue was handmade and we filled the space with the musical musings of that era with a modern twist.
Tell us about your main outfits..
We have always loved the style of the roaring 20’s and we strived to incorporate that into the looks we wore. From Christina’s headpiece to Mike’s pocket watch, we really let our love for this era shine.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Marriage is like setting up for, and then creating, the best painting of your life. It is messy at times and full of trial and errors but, over time, layer by layer, it forms into a masterpiece. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, and avoid scrutinizing any specific area of the canvas. Your marriage is unique, so make that painting as authentic as possible! Honor your strengths and support each other through any areas where growth is needed.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
Instead of a first look, Mike sang and played a song on his guitar that he wrote for Christina in the “boat room” at the estate. We sat back to back in the room and could not see each other but we did touch hands at one point. Christina insisted that the first moment Mike would actually see her was when she walked down the aisle. Mike did a special dance with his daughter to “Blackbird” by the Beatles which is a song he sang to her every night when she was young. We both ditched traditional gender roles in the wedding party. Christina had her best friend, David, as her Man-of-Honor and Mike had multiple Groomsmaids in his party. During our reception, we dawned classic masquerade style masks in honor of Mike’s Louisiana heritage and our mutual love for the dramatic side of life. Each of our guests were given a mask at their table setting so they were able to join us in the fun.
