Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship… I’m an illustrator, textile designer and Daniel works in animal pharmaceuticals as a supply chain manager. Our work lives are so different but it forever keeps conversations interesting.
Daniel is from Taranaki New Zealand, I’m from Suffolk UK however we have recently moved to Ireland. We love the outdoors and to travel. The nature of Daniel’s job means that we’ve had to relocate to different locations around the world, this keeps our relationship going from strength to strength and always building on new adventures.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details… We were lucky enough to have so many Kiwis travel to the UK. Daniel and I wanted to showcase Suffolk’s outdoors and produce but also bring in some kiwi touches. My Dad organised a special touch and was able to have the New Zealand flag flying on top of St Mary’s church, which was incredible. It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of good music, food and drink.
The wedding was located in a small village during spring. The community of the village was fantastic and we couldn’t be more thankful for their help. My parents were out of this world, from my mum sewing her heart out to my Dad bringing my fairy light obsession to reality.
The wedding was a lot of my own vision and design work, along with the love of flowers, fabrics and fairy lights. We knew picking the things we liked and having all of the people we love, it was going to be a great day to remember.
Tell us about your main outfits: My dress was a special creation for me. I fell in love with the fabric from The Fabric Store in Auckland where I used to work and got it before we moved back to the Northern Hemisphere. I designed up an idea of how I envisioned it and my extremely talented mum, Diana Totten, made it and put so much love into making it perfect for me.
Daniel’s suit was tailor made in Suffolk. We did a lot ourselves for the big day but it was a treat to have some professional talent to get us dolled up and to have some unique touches to our outfits.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day? One of the biggest and most special moments for us both was standing in a beautiful church with the best people in our lives from both our homes. To have friends and family travel so far for us was incredibly special.
The wedding day truly went into its own, I kept myself on the dance floor all night and the guys had a great impromptu football game. The whole atmosphere of the day was something you can’t plan and it’s all about having the people you love there.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together? Talk a lot, laugh, enjoy it, and take adventures and risks.
