Real Wedding: Holly & Nic – Photography by Emily Adamson

The proposal started as a normal weekend away camping. Nic’s not really the romantic type, and totally surprised me on a morning walk along the beach when he pulled out a vintage ring he’d chosen. After I said yes, we celebrated with coffees from the local camp shop. It was perfect and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

We both have a passion for old things and enjoy the simple things in life – good food and wine with friends and family and weekends away camping. We bought ourselves a wedding gift of a ‘76 Kombi camper, which we’re slowly starting to revamp.

The wedding was a real family affair. We included things that had special meaning to us, like a neon sign designed and gifted by the matron of honour, Nic’s father’s handcrafted the wooden bar and my dad lent us the classic Ford Falcon he’d spent the past year restoring.

We’d like to tell future couples you don’t need a big flashy wedding – keep things simple and remember it’s about having your nearest and dearest there to celebrate your special day. Make it special but don’t get too carried away. Invest in the important things that will make lasting memories, such as a good photographer!

To us marriage is about embarking on the journey of life together. Growing with each other and creating a future together while not having unrealistic expectations – marriage is what you make it!
