Real Wedding: Jenny & David – Photography by Nisha Ravji Photography

David and I are complete opposites and our hobbies are worlds apart. He is spontaneous and I like things to be planned out; he likes to get his hands dirty, whereas I love to make things beautiful as a graphic designer. But despite our differences we are both adventurers and our wedding was full of adventure from start to finish.

There is an isolated cabin in the Catlins that we visit every year. It’s a beautiful spot and we never see a single soul when we are there. David is always up for an adventure and on one particular visit he suggested we climb a beachside cliff to admire the view. I was silently panicking, thinking “how on Earth will I get back down?!”, but those thoughts were quickly forgotten when we reached the top and I saw David down on one knee. We enjoyed our newly engaged status for another week before returning home to civilisation and sharing the news with friends and family. When the time came to plan our wedding, I found myself feeling so overwhelmed by wedding magazines, Tumblr and Pinterest. We had both joked about eloping but didn’t seriously consider it until we booked flights to Austria for a music festival and thought, what better way to kill time between festivals than with a wedding! We knew we wanted our wedding to be outdoors and somewhere that was isolated from tourists but still had a ‘wow’ factor. Our wedding planner found the most incredible place in South Iceland and as soon as we saw the waterfall, we knew it was perfect. I have always had a soft spot for extravagant beading, so the moment I saw myself draped in beading, sequins and pearls, I knew I had found my wedding dress. On my second visit to the bridal studio, the room was dimly lit due to the rain and cloudy weather and I found myself in tears as I twirled in front of the mirror and saw the dress sparkling in the light. That’s when I realized the dress was not only perfect for me, but perfect for Iceland because, rain or shine, it was going to look amazing. On the day of our wedding, David and I, along with our two best friends, hiked up to the waterfall in the rain for our ceremony and then spent the rest of the day exploring the coast and stopping for photos along the way. The day was just how we wanted it to be — fun, relaxed and most of all, stress-free. The best thing about eloping is that there are no plans!
