Real Wedding: Kylie + Nikki – Photography by Jason Corroto

We’re two fun-loving girls in a family unit of three which includes our four-legged fur baby, Soda. Nikki works as a nurse, Kylie in media – with the rest of our lives we love traveling, camping, having afternoon drinks with friends and family – all the basic joys.

We’ve experienced a lot together over the past decade, the good, the bad, and the ugly…we’ve been tried and tested and have come out the other side strong and smiling. We wanted a rugged Australian-style wedding and venue which The Cooks Co-op was perfect for. We hardly had to do anything styling wise, so much of it was already there – the beautiful wooden chandelier that hung above the bridal table, the drop lights throughout the shed, the haybales and seating…all we added was some Australian native flowers to the tables in small jars and a seating chart. We loved that the kitchen was visible to the guests, it felt inclusive of everyone at the wedding and we had eaten Martin Boetz’s food before so knew that it would be amazing. It was a relaxed morning with family popping in and out. We got ready together in the cottage at the venue. Our immediate family and close friends got together prior to the ceremony for champagne. A couple of our best friends played and sung our aisle song as we walked part the way with our Dads, who then met with our Mums and followed us as we headed down the rest of the isle together hand in hand. The ceremony was perfect, we got so caught up in things in fact that we forgot some of the formalities, such as the rings! After we’d kissed and commenced the walk back down the aisle one of the bridesmaids asked “what am I meant to do with these?” (holding the rings) – we all quickly backtracked, our celebrant pulled together some nice words and the rings were slipped on. Getting married really is an experience that you can’t imagine until you’ve actually done it, it truly is the most amazing day of your life. The example of marriage to us has been set by both sets of our parents; a strong, admirable and loving relationship, made up of two people who provide endless support to each other and their family. Marriage is about the daily commitment to working towards all those things that are to be admired in any strong relationship. It is forever choosing to keep your bond strong. Although we know marriage is not about the legalities we believe that our love, our world and our family is no better or lesser than anyone else’s and that we deserve to have that recognised.
