Real Wedding: Moya + Jeff – Photography by Jess Craven at Daring Wanderer

We love bluegrass music, spending time at our family cottage, camping and road trips. Jeff works as an engineer and plays mandolin in a bluegrass band on the side. I work as a product manager at a startup, building websites for small businesses.

We met at a housewarming party five years ago. I didn’t realize Jeff was interested (he’s bad at flirting), but a month after the party, my girlfriend pulled me aside and explained, while she doesn’t usually set people up, Jeff wouldn’t stop asking about me. I passed on my number. He wasted no time. Ten minutes later he called and left a sweet voicemail. I was hooked. The proposal happened on the beach near my family cottage. We hadn’t seen each other in a couple of weeks and Jeff arrived for the long weekend. He was very keen to take a walk to the beach and before I knew it he was proposing. I was so surprised I don’t remember what he said! The ring Jeff had chosen was set to arrive while he was at work so he left a note for the postman explaining the contents of the package, requesting he tuck the parcel in between the doors. The postie responded with a note saying “Good luck!” We have since formed a great friendship with our mailman and still have his letter framed in our house. Jeff and I have always loved the ruins across the footbridge from our home because they have a whimsical, secret garden, feel. Soon after Jeff proposed we were on a walk and noticed a wedding setting up there and it just clicked. Our advice would be to invest in an amazing photographer. After the wedding, all you have are the photos, so find someone who will capture the day exactly the way you remember it. Our first dance was one such memorable moment. Jeff sang the first verse of the song and then came to dance with me, while four of our best friends performed the rest of the song. Asking newlyweds what it feels like to be married is like asking someone on their birthday if they feel older. Technically, you are only one day older, but it somehow feels different. Marriage isn’t a huge change in a relationship, it’s the sacred step you take when you are emotionally ready.
