Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We both come from very humble backgrounds. Aaron moved from Australia when he was a teenager and Renée lived in South Auckland for most of her life.

We met at a music, art & community event called, ‘Festival One’ (festival-find-the-one). It was a brief interaction but something seriously sparked between us. A month after the festival, we went on our first date. Which was nerve wracking but so much fun. The thought in our minds the whole time was, ‘when will I see you next’.  As they say, the rest is history! We now live in Stillwater at the property we married at – Something we buzz about all the time. We only have to look outside our bedroom window to remember our wedding day.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

The theme & style was relaxed and effortless. We didn’t want to fuss over the details. We gave ourselves 6 months to plan our wedding and it was plenty of time to pull everything together. Thankfully we have a lot of friends in the wedding vendor business so were blessed with so much on our day.

Aaron’s ring was designed and made by Sanders Jewellers in Remuera. It’s a stunning signet ring with garnet gem and rose gold band, which matches Renee’s wedding and engagement band.

When it came to deciding our venue it was easy. We live on an incredible lifestyle block, surrounded by trees, beautiful foliage and a little lake.

Lily from The Floral Files, made our bouquets, flower crown, pinholes and teepee mostly from foliage found at home! Which was such a lovely touch. The Teepee was definitely one of our favourite features of the day. It was so beautifully effortless! You wouldn’t have known they were rushing to finish it before the ceremony started!

Our photographer Misi Chan was the perfect fit. Renee had modelled for him a couple of times doing styled wedding shoots, through which they became friends. He always said he’d photograph our wedding and we’re so glad he did. His work is incredible and he has such an easy going nature. Something well needed during the busy-ness of a wedding.

Also our grazing table was incredible. Made by Never Ending Market Feast with contribution from Satay Noodle House, who supplied us with the most amazing shrimp pad thai *drool. All our guests came away full and satisfied from the afternoon tea. We didn’t do a big dinner reception. Rather we kept things simple and free from allocated seating debacles…

Our day couldn’t have happened without the help of so many incredible humans. Even though only a few are mentioned above, every single one of them played such a huge role in making our day possible and so very memorable. We cannot recommend them enough. We can say, without a shadow of doubt, that they are all so incredibly talented, loving, genuine and kind. Arohanui to them all for blessing us with the best.

Tell us about your main outfits:

My dress was designed by Julia of Elizabeth May Bridal. The design was a 2 piece gown. Off the shoulder lace sleeves. Fitted cotton silk skirt that flowed into a full lace train. Aaron wore a simple linen shirt and tan chinos with brown Dr Martins.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

It’s hard to pick specific moments because the whole day was truly divine for us. Having our community surround us and celebrate us was just magic and unforgettable.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

In regards to your wedding, anything goes. Nothing is sacred (except for the vowels between you and your boo). Don’t be afraid to change things up. Do it how you want. Don’t conform to other people’s ideals and opinions. Like everyone says, ‘This is YOUR day’. And it is! I’m so glad that my now husband and I didn’t approach our wedding in the traditional sense. This meant we had a stress free approach to our day and we were able to be so completely present with each other and our family and friends.
