Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
Rob and I have been together six years, and mutually met through our very close friend Abby when living in Sydney. We both hail originally from country NSW. I’m from the honest town of Mudgee, and Rob from Bowral in the Southern Highlands, gentry of Sydney. These days, we still embody their old school country values of honesty and respect, which is now coupled with a with a professional modern day entrepreneurial twist.
Rob is an investment banker who is building a disruptive fin tech business and I’m the Victorian Sales Director of an Artificial Intelligence Ad Tech Platform.
We strive to be kind hearted, ambitious and career minded individuals who are accepting of each other’s complexities With young Sonny coming into our lives, the creation a beautiful family life is really important to us. The building blocks have been put in place for Sonny to grow up in an environment that is full of love.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
In general we were wanting the celebration to be an reflection of how we live and typically enjoy sharing experiences with our friends and family. We did not want another factory produced wedding that steps people through the typical motions of a wedding.
We were new Melburnians and wanted to showcase Melbourne’s creative culture to our largely out of town guests and what better way to do this than an industrial warehouse wedding with all the trimmings, freshly shucked oysters, free flowing local vino, flavour packed feast, music that you simply couldn’t ignore, all finished with a midnight snack at a quintessential Melbourne bar Le Bon Ton. We wanted to create an experience that was memorable that celebrated our new found city.
Tell us about your main outfits:
My dress was a creation from the talented team at Jane Hill with a custom fabric that was created for the design. Rob’s outfit was a beautifully tailored midnight blue tux, with satin lapels created by Ramon El Zinga a dear friend, our MC and tailor.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
Walking down the aisle together as a family with my handsome groom and our baby boy Sonny – the jig was up we had procreated; there was no veiled bride being given away at an altar.
Our music was an absolute highlight the artists were so talented and guests shared so many compliments about the entertainment. That was key to elevating the phases over the course of the evening in the absence of typical formalities of a sit down wedding. Matty Charles, Pam Wachira and Andrew Loadsman we all particular favourites on the night.
I have always been partial to a speech and my own wedding was no different. Rob and I were the only 2 people that spoke, though personally these were the most memorable moments of the day for us. We each loved having the opportunity to share many a tale of our early courting days and memorable moments we shared with our loved ones in the room.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Find your non-negotiables, invest generously in these areas and save a penny from anything outside of this list – you won’t care to remember the heavily adorned wishing well box, though you will certainly miss the pennies in your back pocket.
We seemed to break many a rule with our wedding. We reconsidered the wedding routine to create a new experience and to ensure the day was meaningful for us. Don’t feel like you can’t rethink the day to be a more authentic personal experience.
