Sarah & Lyn by Hill Collective

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship… I am a primary teacher and Lyn is a credit analyst. We met when we were 9 and 10 years old at Cambridge Primary School.

We were close friends but lost touch in intermediate as we went to different schools. We reunited in high school and have been together ever since. We have grown up together and have conquered many milestones in our lives together such as high school, moving out of home, university, buying our first house and renovating it. We are now expecting a new addition to our family in July. Marriage to us is spending the rest of our lives with our best friend and continuing to grow together through this journey called life.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

Our day was more than we could of ever imagined. We walked down the aisle together which was important to us, we loved how casual and informal it was. We went with a very classic and simple style with crisp white and greenery. We got married at my Mums farm which meant a lot to us and the setting was perfect around the pool on a hot summers day. We loved how country it felt but elegant at the same time.  We loved the chairs and how they surrounded the pool and the lights hanging over the entire pool area made it feel cosy and beautiful at night time.

Tell us about your main outfits:

My wedding dress was from Jessica Bridal in Auckland and my shoes were from Overland. Lyn and the Groomsman suits were from Barkers. The bridesmaids wore a black dress of their choice so they felt confident and comfortable.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

We loved being surrounded by everyone we love. Having everyone together in the same place was so special as we have large families and also family members who live outside of New Zealand.  We also going off for sunset photos as it gave us some time to soak in the moment and be together without everyone around.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Enjoy every moment. Planning a wedding can cause so much stress but if you take it all in and remember the reason you are getting married it can be such a positive special experience. Also, everything happens for a reason so if things go ‘wrong’ roll with it, it wasn’t meant to happen and it all works out in the end. Our cake ended up falling out of the trailer and that is one of our favourite stories from the day.
